The drive from Dabolim follows National Highway 66 through Margao, the South Goa administrative hub, before peeling west toward the coast, a journey of roughly 65 kilometres that threads through laterite-red villages, cashew orchards, and the occasional Portuguese-era church spire. From the newer Manohar facility, the route stretches 100 kilometres south, tracing the Western Ghats' foothills before descending into the Canacona taluka. Palolem itself occupies a sheltered bay flanked by granite headlands, a geography that earned it quiet fishing-village status until the 1990s, when backpackers discovered its unusually calm waters and the cluster of bamboo huts tucked beneath the palms. Today the beach remains Goa's southernmost developed coastline, hemmed by the Karnataka border six kilometres inland. The taxi from Goa airport to Palolem Beach remains the dominant transfer mode — no direct bus service links either terminal to Canacona, and the nearest railway station at Canacona lies four kilometres inland with limited connecting transport. The road itself reveals layers of Goa's agricultural economy: fields of kokum trees near Margao, their dark-purple fruit harvested for sol kadhi; paddy terraces that flood monsoon green from June to September; and the abrupt shift to coconut monoculture as the highway nears the coast. Private sedans and shared SUVs operate around the clock from both airports, the latter accommodating up to six passengers with luggage racks for surfboards and dive gear. Meter taxis queue outside Dabolim's single terminal, though pre-booked vehicles bypass the scrum and proceed directly to the pickup zone near the domestic arrivals gate. At Manohar, a newer commercial taxi counter anchors the ground-floor concourse, while app-based services now penetrate the arrivals hall. Distance dictates pricing: Dabolim transfers average 90 minutes in off-peak hours, while the Manohar run stretches beyond two hours depending on monsoon road conditions and the inevitable cattle crossings near Quepem. The final approach to Palolem descends through a canopy tunnel of rain trees before the Arabian Sea blinks into view, framed by the silhouettes of fishing trawlers anchored beyond the reef line.
